Interaction can be defined in several ways. In the learning environment, one model of interaction consists of a three-way connection between the student, the content, and the teacher. Other models include student/self-interaction, instead of the content being a part of the interaction process – but it still makes a three-way connection. Overall, learning interaction can be defined as reciprocal events that require at least two objects and two actions. Interactions occur when these objects and events mutually influence one another (Wagner, 1994).
In order to review what interaction could look like in my group’s Interactive Learning Design, I analyzed a youtube video that could be beneficial to the students. As a refresher, the Interactive Learning Design chosen by my group is a program intended for high school students to learn and develop healthy mental and physical habits. When choosing content for learners, it is important to recognize their perspective. Individuals are naturally more engaged with content they can relate to, or subject matter they find interesting. The video I chose is HOW TO LOVE EXERCISE | 5 fitness strategies to exercise regularly (& enjoy it), where Meghan Livingstone describes her personal experiences and tips to encourage individuals to love exercise before forcing themselves into a poor mindset around routine. Livingstone provides an extremely welcoming and enthusiastic attitude throughout this clip, which would ideally engage students and encourage them to participate. Livingstone is also younger, which makes this content much more relatable for students, and further increases the likelihood that they become involved. This content can be integrated directly into our program. It falls under the subtopic “Learn to appreciate exercise”, where students can implement the ideas presented in this video into their exercise routine. The assessment for this subtopic will be based on their journal entries as well as continued in-class discussions throughout this course. Generally, this video offers a fairly broad spectrum of ideas that may become difficult for students to actually implement into their healthy habits. While ideas in the video appear much easier to achieve than they may be in reality, the video is still a great start and encouragement for students to create a healthy lifestyle.
